GIS in Local Councils - Cambridgeshire GIS Partnership

The Cambridgeshire GIS Partnership was established in 2007, comprising initially Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council. Its  objective was to improve efficiency and quality of service through sharing Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial data. This was particularly important because of the large Growth Agenda supported by the three partner councils. The first phase took place in early 2008. It entailed the realisation of a “proof of concept” in which a small number of datasets were shared via network links to a “hub” operated by South Cambridgeshire District Council, based on an Oracle database and MapInfo’s GeoStore product set.
